Muddle the sugar cube (or granulated sugar or simple syrup) with the maraschino liqueur, both bitters, and absinthe in a rocks glass.
Add the whiskey and stir.
Add ice, preferably a large cube, and stir until well chilled.
Garnish with lemon peel.
